Team Solent scraped a victory in the dying embers of their league match against Bemerton Heath FC.

In a scrappy affair, Bemerton had the majority of the chances, and they could have won it towards the end after Josh Buck’s half-volley scraped the foot of the post.

The Sparks managed to counter and Matthew Sheedy was on hand at the back post to fire in the winner, even though his side was second best throughout the match.

The first half was one to forget, with chances lacking, but tempers flared after some full-blooded challenges, leaving the referee with a huge task on his hands to keep control of the game.

Solent had a chance to take the lead at the end of the first half but striker Tyrell Mitford wasted the opportunity, placing the ball high and wide.

The second half continued as the first did, with challenges flying in left, right and centre, resulting in seven yellow cards produced by the end of the game, four for Bemerton and three for Solent.

Bemerton’s tricky winger Jake Rawkins saw his free kick hit the wall, and several dangerous crosses cleared away, whilst Solent wasted a free kick opportunity of their own.

The winning goal came after Tobi Adekunle beat his man before picking Sheedy out at the back post. His first effort was saved before he pounced on the loose ball to bury it into the empty net and win his side the match.

The victory keeps Team Solent in eighth place in the Premier Division table, with three games in hand over the seventh-placed Portchester.
