Match Report - Team Solent vs Hamworthy United

It was back to league action for Team Solent who had made progress in two recent cup matches played. They looked to get back to winning ways in the league tonight, having not won in their last three Premier Division games.

Both sides pressed in an interesting first half as Solent, who had been in a right old scrap a couple of days ago, looked to put some momentum together which, at times in the first half, they struggled to achieve. There were chances for both sides though with a home defender being caught in possession early doors and Hodge’s shot was well parried by Solent keeper Banda, who was continuing with the form he’d shown on Saturday. Solent’s Thorn had a shot blocked whilst Waller-Lassen showed some great feet on the right and pulled the ball back but Mitford was unable to make contact.

Waller-Lassen then turned a Hammers defender inside-out but his shot from wide right went the wrong side of the far post. Good pressure by White in the Solent defence forced Smith to head a right-wing cross over whilst Hodge was still getting forward for the visitors but was off target on two occasions. Good football by Wiseman who laid it wide to Orvis but the cross just failed to find Mitford in the middle, whilst Fisk tried a curler that cleared the Solent bar.

It was beginning to look as though Solent were having to accept a goalless position at the break … but no … two late goals put them in command. Mitford took a free-kick in midfield and found Waller-Lassen who played a delicious low ball in from the right and Orvis tucked his shot into goal. Thorn found Adekunle who almost put in Waller-Lassen but he was closed well by Hammers keeper Scott. But, with the clock ticking onto the ’45 mark’, an Orvis pass put the ball on the proverbial plate for Waller-Lassen and he doesn’t miss those, firing low past the keeper.

HT: 2-0.

Thorn added a third Solent goal on 59 minutes, a slick move from the left, Adekunle’s shot was charged down and the defender finished well to net his second goal in three days. The Hammers kept going with Banda out to make a brave save from Hodge. The fourth Solent goal set off a sudden avalanche as three went in within five minutes.

Adekunle started it, receiving a cross, he sent a powerful header that thudded off the underside of the bar and in (perhaps via the keeper). Next, a partial tackle on Waller-Lassen saw the ball squirm loose and was picked up by Wiseman who fired home his fourth of the season. A forward pass by Mitford sent Waller-Lsssen clear, the keeper tore out to get there but the ball looped up in the air and he pirouetted with fine timing to strike it home into the empty net from 25-yards out and his 17th this season.

It was, of course, 6-0 now and all over bar the shouting but Banda was determined to retain his clean sheet, making a smart parry and then reacted well to block and pick up a knock with a courageous save from the follow up having not known that the second attacker was offside. He followed that by pushing behind a Hodge shot. Adekunle added number seven, he had team mates to aim for in the middle but his effort from wide on the left went into the far corner, his second of the night; he meant it, of course!

FT: 7-0.

It was an odd sort of 7-0 game as, if possession stats were recorded then there probably wasn’t too much between them. But, there’s one stat that counts and, quite frankly, the teams were poles apart.
