Team Solent 2016 review

Farewell 2016 … what a brilliant calendar year for Team Solent football.

• Already established ourselves in our first Premier Division campaign by the start of the calendar year.

• Beat that otherwise all-conquering Salisbury team as we were en route to winning the Wessex League Cup

• Took Blackfield & Langley to the cleaners in the Southampton Senior Cup Final

• Had a fixture list in April when we were almost playing every other day!  Had two cups to put into the cabinet and keep polished in the summer

• August – the usual early season struggles ensued (but we are a hardened lot us Sparks followers and understand these things!)

• The arrival of some great fresher players, who took no time at all to mix with the ‘older guard’, and the football at times continues to get better and better

• Had an incredible trip almost to the South Westerly tip of Cornwall in the FA Vase.

So, we move into 2017 and, well, we are still in three cup competitions but now probably only have an outside chance for the league, but you never know? But beware, January is a big month and we will be playing in (and need to remain in) them all before February comes along. So, we look ahead with great expectations and I look forward to seeing you next year!
