Match Preview - Team Solent vs Lymington Town

Team Solent will make their long-awaited return to the Wessex Premier League action when they host Lymington Town on Saturday, having not played since last year.

2018’s heavy rain throughout the South hasn’t been kind to the pitches in the non-league, with the Sparks’ only two games in January being postponed.

Those fixtures were Alresford Town at Test Park on the 20th and an away trip to Brockenhurst on the 22nd.

As a predominantly student-based team, the players are used to having a Christmas break but it remains to be seen how much the extra delay has affected their match fitness.

Manager James Taylor will be demanding that not to be the case when they welcome an inform Linnets team to Test Park.

Fortunately for their opponents, they escaped the damages of the treacherous Hampshire conditions; winning three out of their four games last month, the last a 6-1 hammering of Netley Central Sports in the Southampton Senior Cup.

The visitors are 11 places and 16 points higher and were victorious the last time these two met 2-1 at the same venue, although that was in the previous season.

But, Solent's home record is convincing and won their last game on their soil 3-2 against Cowes Sports, so the odds aren’t in Lymington’s favour by no means.

As it stands, there are no injury updates for either team and both will be hoping it stays in that manner with the return leg scheduled for March 6th.

Kick-off is at 3 pm and tickets can be bought at the Test Park gate for £5 or less for concession.
