Match Report – Team Solent vs Lymington Town

Team Solent took on Lymington Town on Saturday in the Sydenham Premier Division, with both sides looking to overtake seventh place Alresford town.

Solent took aim first in the fourth minute of the game, Jim Orvis’s corner finding Patrick Nolan who’s right footed effort was not enough to beat Linnet’s keeper Stuart Williamson.

Spark’s forward Silvano Obeng then found himself through on goal moments later, but his left footed attempt was also denied.

A few moments later, Lymington almost took the lead through Charlie Willet, after a scrappy corner ended up at the number nine’s feet, but keeper Lee Webber was there to keep the match at a stalemate.

Approaching the twenty-minute mark, both sides failed to create any clear cut chances, with Team Solent taking a few speculative efforts that flew wide of the target.

Obeng’s curling effort from 25 yards out was inches wide of the target, to Williamson’s relief.

The game began to fizzle out upon approaching the half our mark.

However, the deadlock was finally broken 35 minutes in, midfielder Jesse Waller-Lassen’s cross was poked in by Jemal Wiseman.

But the Linnets responded right away, a sublime corner found Nick Magee’s head, who guided the ball in to the right hand side of the net; even Stevens once again.

The Sparks began to pick up the tempo though, once again Waller-Lassen finding the gaps. His through ball found teammate Tyrell Mitford, but the winger failed to keep his effort down from inside the box.

Just before the whistle blew for half time, number ten Waller-Lassen was bought down on the edge of the box. Unfortunately for the Sparks, his dinked effort swayed towards the wrong side of the post.

Halftime finished with a goal-a-piece.

The second half began with more of the same, both sides with opportunities to take the lead.

Linnet’s Centre half Carlo Tate was denied by the post after Owen Fee’s corner bobbled into the box.

Ten minutes in, drama almost spilled over after a fifty/fifty challenge. Several members from each side got involved in a heated exchange before ref Gary Parson was there to calm things down.

Shortly after, Obeng found himself one on one with the keeper, but his strike was straight at the shot stopper.

Both sides cancelling each other out dominated the twenty minutes that followed. Neither side were able to make the most of the half chances that presented themselves.

The first sub was made by Lymington with fifteen minutes to go, Harry Hawkins replacing Willet.

With ten minutes to go, Brad Strickland brought down Tobi Adekunle who was rocketing forward for Solent on a fast break. Strickland was booked for his actions.

The challenge seemed to spark Solent alive and the reds began to pile on the pressure.

The Linnets, however, soaked up the pressure and flew forward themselves. Fee’s jinxing run opened up the space for him to find sub, Hawkins, who rifled the ball into the roof of the net to give the Town the lead.

Lymington were able to hang on and pull off an impressive away victory. The win took them above Team Solent, but the Sparks still have five games in hand.
